Hi! So, if you are reading this, you are either lost or you intended to find out more about me, Michelle Graves. Either way, you can stick around if you’d like!

Let’s see, where should I begin? Maybe at the beginning? I was born during one of the coldest winters on record in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Wait, is that too far back….. okay, let’s start here then:

I grew up an Army-brat, moving every two to three years until I started middle school, when my dad got out of the Army.  I blame him for my nomadic spirit.  I seem to get restless when I linger in one place for too long.  I’ve got an insatiable thirst for adventure.  Between him and my mom tromping us all over the globe as kids…. well I’m pretty much ruined when it comes to sticking it out in one place.

Lucky for me, the man of my dreams turned out to be an Army infantryman…. whom we shall call The Husband.  The Husband and I were best friends for three years before I finally admitted to myself he was the love of my life.  Now, almost eight years of marriage later, I’m still the happiest girl on earth.  So far, we’ve lived in Tennessee (where I spent the majority of my life after my dad got out of the military), Alabama, Washington, and now we live in Georgia…. at least for the next few months.  Then we are off to Germany for a few years!  (EEEEEEP!)

We have an amazing daughter, better known as Squish, who is in Kindergarten right now.  She is pretty much the best thing that has ever happened to me, aside from The Husband, of course!  She is already starting to read, she writes her own little stories, and she is as crafty as I am!  Pretty much, she is the coolest kid on this planet.  I’m sure you are going to argue that your kid is more amazing…. which is your right, just know I will always think mine is cooler. (As any parent would!)

Writing…. you probably want to know how that all happened….  it was sort of by accident.  I’m not going to sit here and blow smoke up your hiney about how I always dreamed of being a writer from a young age.  It was nowhere on the radar for me, truth be told.  I was an art major in college, nothing even remotely close to writing.  But, I’ve always had an insatiable love for reading, writing long research papers, and the smell of libraries.  Being up in the stacks of a library, where no one else is, is like living in a world all my own.  I could hear the books whispering to me from their shelves, unknown stories and facts waiting to be devoured.  That should’ve clued me in.  It didn’t.  Not until Izzy took up residence in my head and refused to go away until her story was told.  Writing her story opened the flood gates…. and now I have several imaginary people taking up residence waiting for their journeys to be lived.  How did I start writing, out of necessity.  I couldn’t stand Izzy’s constant nagging any longer.  Once I realized she was more satisfied when I was writing, I knew it had to be done.

Izzy’s story is complete now, though even I’m not sure it is forever.  I may come back to it someday.  But have no fear, there are enough characters living in my mind to keep the stories going for many years to come.  Someday they might run out…. but for now, I have quite the stockpile.

As for what I do when I’m not writing…. that’s easy.  I hike, backpack, paddleboard, canoe, hike some more, craft, paint, bake, throw ridiculous parties, and enjoy the heck out of life!  I’m truly blessed with the greatest adventure ever, and I intend to make the most out of the one life I get!

I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little more about me 😀
